Angmar Lesser Wights for Kings of War

Lesser Wights emerging from their barrow.

Having played the Lord of the Rings online MMO some years ago, I was impressed with the renderings of certain types of creatures that they had within the game. Wandering around the tombs, you often came across undead spirits and wights that looked cool and ghastly.

I wanted to create some Lesser Wights for the Angmar army I'm painting for use with the Kings of War rule set.

So I chose the Mantic Games Ghouls as the natural miniature for these Lesser Wights. The perfect choice for a LotR MMO Lesser Wight proxy. Below is the painting method used as both a reminder to me and just in case you are interested in achieving a similar result.

Painting Method
Basecoat in Army Painter Grey.
Drybrush in Citadel Rotting Flesh.

Paint clothes in suitable colour (I chose to use a watered down Terracotta).

Paint nails in the body in Boltgun Metal.

Ink in Army Painter Strong Tone Shader and allow to dry.

Once fully dry, spray in Anti-Shine Varnish.

Drybrush in White Scar very, very lightly.

Paint eyes in Temple Guard Blue leaving shaded eye sockets and only doing raised areas of the eyeball as a point of weird light for the eyes.

 And you are done!

Some more eye candy images.

Angmar eye candy for Kings of War

Been busy at work lately, so haven't had much time to update the blog.

But after MOAB and my first go at playing Kings of War, I was inspired to go back to my War of the Ring miniatures with a view to building a Kings of War army. So I thought I would quickly post some eye candy.

I didn't want to rebase my miniatures, so I purchased some MDF movement trays from eBay. The MDF movement bases has two rows of five spaces that house 25mm round bases. So these were perfect for setting up Troop sized units of 10 miniatures. By placing several of the movement bases together, I can quickly set up Regiments, Hoards or Legions. Casualties can be accounted for by removing miniatures from the movement base.

Anyway, more on this when I have time to post about it.

Update 4: 10mm Fantasy Ogre Miniatures from Black Gate Miniatures

Are you ready to meet the Mammoth Riders?

14 days to go! Here's an update on the progress of the 10mm Black Gate Miniatures Ogre Kickstarter.

Mammoth Riders

We are halfway through Black gate Miniatures first Kickstarer and I am delighted to be able to show off the concept art for the Mammoth Riders. Created by that talented chap Christian Schwager, these guys are going to own the battlefield.

We now have the art for the first four unit types, which would provide a very decent, playable Ogre army. So tell your friends, tell your gaming groups, share on Facebook, Twitter and forums all over the world and let's make it happen.

Finally, with the ? continuing to slide against both the Euro and $, it is a great time to be buying from the UK, no matter where you are based in the world.

Ogres for life.

EB Expo - part 2 Weta Workshop

Weta Workshop at the EB Expo

In the last post I showed some of my highlights from the EB Expo over the October long weekend. Given the lack of games I'm interested in being showcased (there isn't that much coming out over the next few months that I'm keen on), one of the best things from the Expo was Weta Workshop's shop.

There was a lot of veeerrrryyyy nice stuff there. Nice, but expensive.

Being a Tolkien die-hard, I took a lot of photo's. I wanted to have a record that I could use for inspiration in my wargame painting. As such here they are for your inspiration also.

If this was double the size, it would have worked perfectly for 10mm Warmaster!

Anyway, that's all from the EB Expo. Until next year!
