Reaper Miniatures Anubis Guard

I needed some last minute statue decorations for our next game of D&D and I realised that I had these two Anubis Guards from Reaper Miniatures hanging around in my pile of unpainted shame. So out they came for a quick paint job.

Done and dusted! Just in time too for this weekend's game.

High Queen Khalida Neferher

High Queen Khalida Neferher. I've had this miniature for years but haven't gotten around to painting her. Now however my D&D group are, when we can meet between successive lockdowns :( , exploring  tomb complex and are about to meet her. So that was the impetus for me to finally get around to painting her.

Now I just need to paint her Chief Priest. On to the next paint job!

10mm Undead Egyptian style shields for Warmaster

I've been dabbling a bit on Shapeways over the last year with a little project of mine. Anyway, I believe that its finally ready! Presenting 10mm Undead Egyptian style shields for Warmaster.

The miniatures are Pendraken Undead with my Shapeways shields attached.

I used superglue and tweezers to attach them to the miniature (and NOT my fingers... sick of sticking things to my fingers!)

The great thing is that where you place the shields is up to you. So you can play around to get the look you want.

Using a standard Warmaster base (this one is from Kallistra) you get roughly four per row, for a total of eight miniatures per base.

My plan is to build a Warmaster Tomb Kings army that looks more like the GW Tomb Kings warriors before GW went and destroyed the Warhammer world (What the heck were they thinking!!!). So more on this over the coming weeks...months...year...who knows!

Anyway, you can find them at my Shapeways shop here.

Warmaster Tomb Kings Hierotitan

I've begun a process of revamping my Warmaster Tomb Kings army. No small feat and one of many projects I start and then end up doing piecemeal between a bunch of other projects. More on this project in the coming months!

Anyway, back at MOAB last October I picked up the Reaper Miniatures Avatar of Sokar from Reapers Bones range (ie plastic version, not the metal one), and over this Easter break I decided to paint it up. I though that this mini would make an excellent Tomb Kinds Hierotitan for my Warmaster army.

This bad boy is based on a 40x40mm base due to the base the plastic miniature is bound too. It towers menacingly over the battlefield and looks suitably nasty and bound to intimidate those puny 10mm figures.
Run, puny ones...RUUUNNNNN!!!!

I'm telling you lads, the fish was this big.. honest...

To paint it, I used the following method.
  • Basecoat in Chaos Black
  • Paint 'lightning style' flecks on the stone skin with Shadow Grey (i.e. a blue grey colour).
  • Highlight these flecks with Space Wolves Grey (i.e. light blue grey colour).
See below for example of what I mean by 'lightning style' flecks

'lightning style' flecks over the stone skin of the miniature

  • Next paint the robe cloth in Pallid Wych Flesh.
  • Highlight the cloth with White Scar
  • Paint leg bands, arm bands belt and base of rob, chest piece and headband in Sycorax Bronze
  • Paint cod-piece in Shinning Gold.
  • Paint the head dress in the same way as for the robe (Pallid Wych Flesh, then highlight in White Scar).
  • Paint the mace in Sycorax Bronze.

  •  Highlight metal in Shining Gold and Chainmail as you desire (see for example the cod piece and the mace below)
  • Paint the detail on the necklace with an alternate blue, red, green arrangement. Got this idea from a fantastic paint job done for the metal version of this miniature on the Reaper website.
  • I used Teclis Blue base highlighted by Temple Guard Blue for the blue colour,
  • Mephiston Red base highlighted by Evil Sunz Scarlet for the red colour, and
  • Warpstone Glow base highlighted by Goblin Green (Snott Green?) for the green colour.
  • The base edge I painted in Rakarth Flesh and then just used sand from my local beach to cover the base.

  •  I highlighted the eye guards with Chainmail as well.

I was tempted to wash the miniature in either black or brown wash but decided against it as I thought it would drown out the colours.

I want to do another one of these for my 1/72 Kings of War project. However I think I will buy the metal version of this miniature for that project as their is a lot of detail that only faintly can be seen in the plastic version. The metal version keeps those details and so can makes this lad a real centre piece for an army.

Hope you are having a blessed, safe and wonderful Easter!

Tomb Kings Mounted Archers are finished

In a post the other day, I showed an idea I had about how to make Tomb Kings Mounted Archers for use in Warmaster. I've finally finished painting the first unit of them, so I thought I would post an update showing the finished results for the first unit of these little blighters.

Their bases now need to be flocked, etc., but there you go.

An easy way to make Mounted Archers for the Tomb Kings for Warmaster.

How to make Tomb Kings Mounted Archers

I had a crazy idea!

I had some spare Undead (Tomb Kings) Chariots and a heap of Undead Archers, so I decided to combine the two. I used the horses from the chariots and carefully cut the archers from their bases, then super-glued them to the horses... and voila!

Tomb King Mounted Archers for Warmaster!

Tomb Kings in Spaccceeee.....

I'm probably going to mount them two to a base as these are skirmishers. Not so crazy idea after all!

Morghast Harbinger for Warmaster is finally painted

The first of the Morghast Harbinger's for Warmaster is finally painted!

And the paint scheme used?

  • Start with a base coat of Chaos Black
  • Paint the recesses Nihilakh Oxide
  • Drybrush the model in Rakarth Flesh
  • Drybrush next in Pallid Wych Flesh
  • Drybrush a final layer in White Scar
  • Paint the weapons in Boltgun Metal
  • Paint highlights on the weapons and lower wings with Nihilakh Oxide
  • Paint hooves in Scorched Brown and highlight with Bestial Brown
  • Paint armour bone in Naggaroth Night
  • Carefully wash bones in Brown Wash BUT be careful to make sure you stay away from the recesses where the Nihilakh Oxide sits.
  • Layer highlight the armour edges in Shadow Grey
  • Layer highlight the same again in Space Wolves Grey
  • Finally do a highlight layer of the armour edges in White Scar

Here's a few close-ups showing the detail of the paint scheme.

Now to make another one of these things!

I'll post some house rules for this thing in a future post.
