Goblins with swords

Did somebody say "Goblins"?

These little beasties are Ral Patha / Chaos Wars / Iron Wind Metals Lesser Goblins with Swords. These are the other goblin model of my most cherished miniatures from my youth. Great to see them back in circulation through Iron Wind Metals.

I've based them again so that they can fit the movement tray for my Kings of War / Chaos Wars armies.

Love these blighters!

Goblins!

I've been bitten by the Goblin bug! So I grabbed out a bunch of my Ral Partha Kickstarter Gobo's by Iron Wind Metals and started painting.

Goblin-imps ready to run away from battle

These little blighters are Goblin-imps (aka lesser goblins with swords).

I decided to base them two miniatures to a 25mm round base. In this way they look more mob like and also for Kings of War a regiment of goblins comprises 20 miniatures. By placing them two to a base I can have a regiment of twenty gobo's on a single movement tray comprising ten 25mm round base slots.

By having them on a movement tray with removable bases, casualties can quickly be assessed without the use of lots of chits or small dice sitting precariously on the movement tray...(and rolling off and confusing everyone as to how many hits that unit took. "Three. No, it was four. No it wasn't, that was the other unit over there. This regiment lost three hits!"). You get the picture.

Love these miniatures. They are two of my favorites from the old Ral Partha range.

I didn't want standard green goblins but goblins of darker skin tones like those described in The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings. I intent to pretty much do most of the goblins I'm painting in grey tones but I have used a green wash on some of them to give a grey-green tinge to a few.

Need more of these someday. You can never have too many goblins.

Studio Bergstrom's Cardassian Keldan cruiser size comparison

Studio Bergstrom's Keldan class miniature

The other day I posted images of Studio Bergstrom's Galor cruiser comparing it to other miniatures on the market. So today I thought I would show Bergstrom's Keldan dreadnought miniature.

As with the Galor miniature the Bergstrom Keldan miniature is a good middle size when compared with the Attack Wing and MicroMachines miniatures.

Attack Wing Keldan (left), Bergstrom Keldan (middle), MicroMachines Keldan (right)

Being of a middle size, this miniature also lends itself to being a light cruiser for my Cardassian fleet. So that's how I plan to use it for A Call To Arms. I haven't drawn up the ship data card as yet. But I'll also post that when I have completed it.

More great miniatures from Studio Bergstrom!

Studio Bergstrom's Cardassian Galor cruiser size comparison

Studio Bergstrom's Galor miniature

First post for 2018! Wow, can't believe that 2017 has gone so quickly. May be I'm just getting old.

Anyway over the Christmas / New Year break I was able to catch up on some painting. One thing I wanted to do was paint some of the excellent Studio Bergstrom Card Hessian miniatures, particularly the Galor and Keldon proxies he makes.

Flash photo showing more colour contrast

I have had in mind for some time now to use these ships as War Destroyer / Light Cruiser equivalents. As such I planned to use the moniker of Galor II & Keldon II classes. This would be Star Fleets classification names for these Cardassian vessels. But in order for them to be light cruisers they would need to be bigger than the Attack Wing miniatures and yet smaller than the Micro Machines Cardassian vessels. Thankfully they are. See for yourself.

Attack Wing/Heroclix Galor (left), Bergstrom Galor (center), MicroMachines Galor (right)

This size gradation perfectly lends itself to the Galor I's being a Frigate, Galor II's (i.e. Bergstrom's) being a Heavy (War) Destroyer or Light Cruiser, and the Galor III's being a Heavy Cruiser.

I'm still to work out the statistics for these vessels for A Call To Arms - Star Fleet but when I have I'll post the Ship Data Card. Another fantastic model by Bergstrom with good detail.

MERRY CHRISTMAS and a Happy New Year

Luke 1:1-4 (NIV)
1 Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled[a] among us, 2 just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word.3 With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, 4 so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.

Luke 2:1-15 (NIV)
2 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.
4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.”
15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

May you have a blessed and safe Christmas and New Year. See you in 2018!

Kzinti Battle Cruiser comparison

And for the second post of the day (don't expect this very often reader!). Here are some comparison images between the two different sized versions of the Kzinti Battle Cruiser from Amarillo Design Bureau (the Starline 2400 & 2500 series).

Next few images have the MicroMachines USS Enterprise miniature thrown in for a helpful size marker. The Starline 2400 (3788 scale) series is the right size to fit with the MicroMachines mini. But the Starline 2500 series (3125 scale) makes a good heavy battle cruiser or dreadnought sized ship if you are after one.

Now get back to having a great Christmas holiday break!

Lyran Panther Light Cruisers

Two posts today lucky reader. The first is showing the colour scheme I've used for my Lyran Light Cruisers. This model is from Amarillo Design Bureau and can be found here.

This may just become the colour scheme for the rest of my Lyran fleet!
