Making scratch-built engines for starships

 

I picked up these four beauties from MOAB last weekend. They are the old Battle Fleet Gothic Chaos Cruisers. They were in very good condition with the exception of missing engines. So, I hit on the idea that perhaps I could scratch build some. If you know those sushi soy sauce containers that are shaped like a fish, you will notice that they have red lids that look like exhaust funnels. Perfect for what I was after. I pushed pins through the centre of the lids (be very careful doing this!) to give them some extra support when affixed to the miniature, and then superglued them in place by pushing the pin through the small gaps between the upper and lower halves of the model. Now to paint them :)

Reaper Miniatures Half-Orc Fighter, Anval

 

The latest addition to my protagonists facing off against my D&D groups adventurers. This one is the Anval Half-orc fighter from Reaper Miniatures.

I primed this guy in Chaos Black, before giving it a zenith highlight in Wraithbone. The skin was painted in Karak Stone, if I remember correctly, and armour painted in Gunbolt Metal and the cloth in Gore-Grunta Fur contrast paint. The axe had a gold highlight. I then washed the whole model in Agrax Earthshade before using Blood for the Bloodgod on the axe. Very simple and works, in my humble opinion.

I've been planning this battle for some time now, painting and compiling together miniatures and scenery. Getting near now to being ready to play this one. Given the pandemic lockdowns, its going to have to be a solo bash. Still some work to be done, such as painting the rest of the castle. But I will eventually post a Warmaster battle report on this one. For now, this is eye candy. So enjoy!

Chaos vs Medieval (Bretonnian maybe? Still need to decide). Castle walls are by Kallistra. Most figures are GW Warmaster, Pendraken or Kallistra. Roads and river are from eBay. Bridge is from Kallistra. Hill is the old GW Battleboard. Fields are from Hotz mats.

TUTB Wandering Trolls

Trolls Under The Bridge is an eastern European company that produce compatible product lines for Epic, 40K, and Warmaster. You can find their web store is here, but they also list on eBay.

I like the look of their Wandering Trolls and so decided to buy some from their website. I wasn't too confident in the postal system working from eastern Europe to Oz but decided to give it a go a spend my coin. Postage worked out without a hitch and my trolls arrived, with some other goodies from TUTB, within about a month.

I have to say that their miniatures are excellent. I'll show you some images below of what I received, and of their product line. But I must say that there were no issues in purchasing and shipping from them. So if you like the look of their items below. Don't be intimidated about whether your items will turn up or not. I certainly will be buying more from them in the future. So here's my merch...

Warriors are of metal but the trolls are made of hard plastic

I haven't taken them out of their packets yet as I won't be getting around to painting them for some time. But they look excellent and their Wandering Trolls could even double as 15mm Orcs or 28mm Goblins in my view.

Plague Drones of Nurgle for Warmaster (and other fantasy 10mm gaming)

During MOAB last October I came upon some new releases from Reaper Miniatures. These were products from their BONES I & II kickstarter campaigns. Amongst the lot of miniatures I purchased was the Fly Demon. I pick it up thinking that I could use it for something but wasn't sure at the time just what I wanted to use it for.

Anyway, it recently hit me that these could make good proxies for Rot Flies for Warmaster or other 10mm fantasy gaming.

Looking at the fly miniature, it can fit in nicely as a giant Rot Fly. All I would need was a rider for the filthy creature. That's when I remembered that I had a box of Nurglings. These little troublesome fellers are just the right size for 10-12mm wargaming.

So, to make one Plague Drone, take one Reaper Miniatures Fly Demon...

Add one Nurgling...

Glue it to the fly's back...

Add a cut up flag (this one came from the Kallistra miniatures Norman Command pack. I use paper flags for my troops, by the way) to make a wicked looking sword. Glue the sword to the Nurgling and VOILA! One Plague Drone of Nurgle. Now all I need to do is get more of those flies!
