Battle Report - Epilogue, Destiny of the Daleks

Scenario set-up

In the last post I detailed a scenario for the excellent Doctor Who Miniatures Game. You can find that post here. In this post I begin a battle report for this scenario that I got to play several months ago.

The table was set out with scattered terrain. Enough to provide cover for both teams as they approach the Dalek sorcer.

The primary focus of the Movellan efforts was to capture the Dalek saucer in the center of the table.

The Dalek expeditionary force, led by a Black Dalek, is set up in the NE corner of the table. They are returning from the excavation site of the former Kaled Dome. Having failed to locate either Davros or the Dalek Excavation Team, they are returning to their ship in order to undertake aerial scans of the area in the hopes of locating the original group of Daleks.

Hurry up everyone! Watch out for stairs!

Meanwhile, the Dalek saucer is guarded by the Dalek pilots. Both have set up at the base of the entrance ramp into the saucer and are unaware of the approaching Movellans.

Bored...so bored!

The Movellan player deployed their force into three separate groups. Group One, led by the Movellan Commander, approaches the Dalek saucer from the NW corner of the table.

Group Two, led by the female Movellan Sub-Commander, approaches the Dalek saucer from the SW table edge.

Sneaky, sneaky.

Group Three, led by the male Movellan Sub-Commander, points out the Dalek saucer guards. This team approaches from the South and has only sporadic cover. For now however, two big rocks hide their approach well enough.

Oh look over there chaps...

...Daleks at 12 O'Clock!

The Dalek players plan, though initially hampered by the Scenario Rules (see previous post), was to tempt out the Movellans into revealing themselves by making a dash for the Dalek saucer. Meanwhile, the Black Dalek group would approach on mass and catch the Movellans in a pincer move between their group and the Dalek pilots at the saucer. The intent is to take out as many Movellans as possible and drive off the rest.

The Movellan players plan as simple, get at least one group of Movellans into the saucer. If just two miniatures can get on-board the ship, the Movellans can take off and pick up the others later, securing victory. Three groups, from three approach angles, should give the best chance to get at least one group on board.

Stay tuned for the Battle Report!

DWMG Scenario - Epilogue: Destiny of the Daleks

EPILOGUE - Destiny of the Daleks

Scenario set-up

Backstory

The Doctor, in his forth incarnation, and Romana have just left Skaro after having managed to free a group of slaves held by the Daleks. These slaves were being worked to death in the Kaled ruins excavating a passage to where the Daleks believed Davros, their creator, slumbered in hibernation. As the course of events played out, a Movellan insurgent force arrived on Skaro to thwart the Daleks plan.

The Doctor and Romana, with the help of the freed slaves, managed to foil the schemes of both Dalek and Movellan. In doing so they were able to also capture Davros and help the former slaves escape back to Federation space in the Movellan's ship. As the Doctor's TARDIS de-materializes the sound of a Dalek scout ship is heard in the skies above the Kaled ruins as it enters the atmosphere. This scout ship was sent to pick up Davros and take him to the Dalek battle fleet which is locked in a stalemate situation with the Movellan battle fleet. The Movellan insurgent force, now marooned on Skaro, hit on a cunning plan to steal the Dalek ship and escape back to Movellan space.

Forces

Side A - Movellans: 11 Movellans consisting of a Commander (standard profile but with 2 Hits and Leader (2) ability), two Sub-Commanders (standard profile but with Leader (1) ability) and eight Movellans (standard profile).

Side B - Daleks: 7 Daleks consisting of one Black Dalek (the force leader) and six Daleks.

The Table

The main feature of the table is the Dalek ship, which must be located in the center of the table. Scatter terrain around the rest of the table as desired. Players can alternate setting up pieces of terrain around the table but terrain pieces should be evenly distributed across the table.

Set-up

Set up the table as shown in the image. The Movellans set up anywhere within the Western and Southern table edges, but no more than 4" (or 10 centimeters) of either edge of the table. A Dalek guard unit can set up within 1" (or 2.5cm) of their ship. A secondary Dalek retrieval force, consisting of the Black Dalek and at last two other Daleks, sets up in the North-eastern corner of the table no more than 4" (10cm) from that table corner.

Initiative

The Movellans, having remained undetected by the Daleks whilst sneaking up on the Dalek landing site, gain the Initiative for the first turn.

Special Rules

Until a Movellan moves out of cover, or fires on a Dalek, the Daleks remain unaware of the Movellan presence on Skaro. The retrieval team, having not made contact with the either Davros or any other Dalek from the excavation team, are returning to their ship to relay this information and receive further instructions. As such, until the Movellan presence is detected, the Daleks can only head back to their ship. Once arriving at their ship they will board it and lift off to conduct aerial surveillance of the area in the hopes of finding Davros. If they detect a Movellan however, all Daleks are free to act.

In order for the Movellans to control the Dalek ship, they must get at least two Movellans on board the vessel without any Daleks being on board. If the Movellans can do this, they will seal the entrance ramp and take off. Any Movellans left on the group will be picked up later at another location as long as they can exit any table edge.

The Movellan player doesn't need to seal the Dalek ship immediately if they believe they can get additional Movellans on board. However once the entrance ramp is sealed, the Movellans on the Dalek ship must take off. The Movellan player must announce whether or not the captured Dalek ship is taking off at the beginning of each turn the Movellans have control of the ship. If the ship does not take off, it is assumed that the entrance ramp is still down for that Turn and the Daleks have a chance to board the ship in order to retake it.

Movellans do not have any Movellan Virus in this scenario.

Ending the Game

The game continues until the Daleks have defeated or driven off the Movellans or the Movellans have captured the Dalek ship and taken off.

Two Player Characters for Roleplaying games

I've just finished two mini's for player characters in our role-playing group. These girls come from Slave2Gaming's 28mm range and the pig companion (named Truffles) is a Pathfinder miniature. The pig is yet to be based properly but will be joining these two as a faithful pet (spoiler, the pig is magical and able to shape shift into a massive boar whenever threatened).

Now to find a second pet companion for these girls. I thing a dog may do the trick.

Romulan Condor from Shapeways

Romulan Condor flanked by two Warbirds

Back in 2004 I bought a bunch of ship miniatures off Shapeways. Some of these have been sitting around for ages now waiting to be painted. One such miniature is a very nice Romulan dreadnought vessel. I have two of these and will be using them to represent Condors for A Call To Arms - Star Fleet. Anyway, here is one of them finally painted.
