Fallout d20 - The RobCo Adventure, part 2

In the first part of this rpg adventure report (you can find it here), my players ended off in a firefight with a giant robot they had reactivated and a squad of Securitybots. As that battle ranges below, another fight continues on the balcony above. Roberto, the Assassinbot and a player's character (a Benderbot) were locked in a fierce struggle, the two pushing and pulling each other back and forth whilst bullets fly around them. This post continues with what happened next...

The rest of the players fled upstairs and into the robot rumble. Standing there, they didn't know what to do as any attempt to shoot at Roberto could hit Bender instead.

Meanwhile, the firefight below continued to rage with the giant robot shooting lazer beams at the Securitybots, who reciprocated with automatic weapons fire. The giant robot now was smoking, leaking oil and small fires were breaking out across its joints. The players however couldn't see how many of the five Securitybots remained operational. So, they were left guessing as to what would happen next.

Finally, Bender prevailed after a good series of rolls and managed to push Roberto off the balcony. As he fell, Roberto's angry yells of "I'll get you Bender! I'll kill you!" echoed even above the noise of gun and lazer fire. Roberto fled the scene and the PC's were left slightly paranoid as to where he had gone. Clearly, from the fight that had occurred between Roberto and Bender, this major and unhinged NPC wasn't someone to be trifled with.

To some relief, the players saw that there were only two Securitybots left operational. But their newly acquired giant robot was looking far worse for wear. Smoke, small fires and oil leaks were hinting at its internal state and a glow had begun to be visible as its metal plates were heating up.

Finally, three of the players realised what was about to happen to their giant robot and ran back to the other room to take cover. One player, who's character was wearing power armour, remained put. With a deafening boom the giant robot exploded, taking out the last two Securitybots, and the balcony, with it. The player in power armour suddenly discovered the virtues of power armour when it comes to falling landing on his feed unscathed. Fortunately, his armour protected him from the flying shrapnel and the fiery explosion as well.

The team proceeded out of the main building and were set upon by more automatic gun fire. This time coming from a sentry gun located on the roof of the smaller building. Bender decided to play baseball with a live hand grenade and, taking some bullet holes to his main chassis, took out the automatic gun with a brilliant attack roll placing the grenade right next to the auto-turret.

They then approached the building only to have one of the PC's yet again step on another land mine. Quick thinking Bender went and retrieved some of the twisted metal from the giant robot and was able to slide it over the mines pressure plate as the other PC slowly moved their foot off it. It was cleaver thinking, so I allowed it to go without a hitch :)

Then, in single file now, they made their way to the other building only to be confronted near its entrance by an Assaultron.

Bender, in the lead, once again let fly with his baseball bat. As has the Rooted perk, and the Assaultron was coming at him, he had some pretty nasty damage ready behind that swing. Rolling brilliantly, he savaged the head of the Assaultron and a battle that I expected to last several rounds was over in the single one. Damn robots! But hey, it was cool, and the players loved it.

Going into the smaller building, they found a vault door and computer consul. Suddenly it began to make sense to them why the RobCo facility was so small. They were able to unlock the vault using a password they had found in a safe in the main building and saw a spiral staircase descending down to underground.

It was there that we called it quits for this session. The lads next will find themselves in an underground vault. I wonder what they will find.

Fallout d20 - The RobCo Adventure, part 1

In through the chain link fence

Over the weekend, the lads came over for the latest adventure in our home-grown Fallout d20 game. This adventure saw the team visit a RobCo Factory looking for specific robot schematics so they could build their own bots. One of the players took on his old character again after they had recovered the PC robot's head two adventures ago.

Finding a hole in the chain link fence, they proceeded around the back of the factory only to discover that there were land mines scattered hither and yonder and a number of low mounds with holes in them scattered across the carpark of the facility. Then automatic gunfire opened up on them and they were forced to move quickly into cover. At one point, one of the PC's stepped on a land mine. The other PC's then worked to disarm it. They failed! Fortunately, doing 3d6 damage, the old land mine had clearly seen better days when I rolled a miserly 5 pts of damage.

Benderbot, the player character robot, decided to climb to the roof of the factory. His extendable arms and legs just reaching the roof from the industrial skip bin at the back of the main building.

Surprise!

It was at this moment that molerats sprang upon the rest of the group as they made their way to a side entrance into the building.

Natural 20!

One of the molerats rolled a Critical on one of the PC's. The player rolled very high on the Critical Chart and went down unconscious and bleeding out from a vicious abdominal wound. They had 1d4+1 rounds to have someone come to their aid with a Stimpak before they bled out and died. Rolling a 3, for four rounds till death, the fight was on in earnest. We were fast heading to our first PC death for this adventure. The pressure was on.

Benderbot, who only had a baseball bat as a weapon, dropped it down on the molerat that was chomping into the downed PC. The player also rolled a Natural 20, pulverising the rodents head into the hard packed dirt. The players managed to kill the molerats with one combat round left till PC death.

Stimpaked, up again and mobile, they proceeded on to enter the main building with Benderbot dropping through the skylight onto the upper floor.

Whilst Benderbot was searching on the level above, the rest of the team entered the building through the side door.

Whilst Benerbot explored upstairs the rest of the team found that they had entered the main assembly part of the facility. To their surprise they discovered an inactive giant robot. Accessing the nearby computer console (with another Critical Success!!!), they began checking through the data entries looking for robot schematics. No schematics were present on the computer however they came across several file entries that discussed Project "Liberty" and the development of a prototype giant combat robot for the US Army. One file gave them the option to set the personality profile no the prototype giant robot that stood as a silent silver sentinel behind them.

It was then that the main entrance roller door began to open. Five Security bots were on the other side about to enter the facility. Not trusting their chances after the molerats nearly tore them apart, they quickly picked the "defend all humans" setting on the robot personality profile and made for the internal door leading away from the factory floor.

Bigbot began shooting laser blasts at the Security bots, who reciprocated with assault weapon's fire.

Run for it!

Taking cover in the next room, the trio found themselves hunkering down as stray bullets punched through the upper part of the internal wall. A set of stairs lead up to the floor above, but for now, they felt that sitting tight was the best option.

Little did they know what was going on upstairs.

Benderbot ran into an old assembly line "buddy" names Roberto. Roberto however was an Assassinbot. Roberto was also a psychopath who was always pushing Benderbot around, playing nasty practical jokes on him, and threatening to "kill" him one day.

Roberto become more and more agitated and aggressive towards Benderbot and soon a knife fight was on. Benderbot had his trusty baseball bat, Roberto his razor-sharp knife. Benderbot decided to try to grapple Roberto and managed to get both the psychopaths arms locked tight. This resulted in a grapple battle as the two pushed each other back and forth until they entered the upper walkway of the factory assembly area.

"I'm gonna kill you, Bender! I'm gonna kill you! Stabby, stab, stab..."

Whilst all this was going on, the firefight downstairs was heating up with robots blasting each other and damage building up on the giant robot. Soon it began to smoke, and fire was breaking out internally. The Security bots weren't faring much better themselves.

What happened next, I'll share in a second post of the adventure. So stay tuned.
