Hillbilly Technicals for Earth vs the Invaders

These lads are from Team Yankee's WWIII range and are American Pickup Trucks. They are 10mm in scale and you get four to a pack. I'm going to be using them for Earth vs the Invaders from Small Batch Miniatures.

There will be some scale creep as the rest of the miniatures I am using as human forces will be 15mm Flames of War, as Earth vs the Invaders fits nicely with the 50's and 60's sci-fi movies like Earth vs the Flying Saucers, Them and The Blob.

I'll initially be using the Human Forces Jeep with Machine Gun stats for these vehicles.

The final image shows the four technicals facing off against the Insect Faction's Giant Soldier (a soldier ant in this case).

Now to make some more Hillbillie special vehicles to bolster the squishy humans.

ShireCon 2025 is on this weekend

 

ShireCon is on again for 2025. ShireCon is an annual tabletop gaming convention run by the Sutherland Shire Gamers. Now in its third year, if I remember correctly, it's becoming bigger with each year. Sutherland Shire Gamers run the excellent MOAB convention every year and ShireCon is certainly becoming a second success for them on the gaming calendar.

This year, Slave2Gaming is in attendance with a small selection from their shop. Slave2Gaming has some excellent 15mm sci-fi miniatures for Ma.K 15mm that I use for other games, such as Gruntz15mm and Starship Troopers. This ShireCon, the Slave2Gaming team have brought their Ma.K 15mm sci-fi range and these are masterful sculpts.

Apart from the plethora of 40K and Warhammer Fantasy games, there were some others that caught my eye.

For a couple of years now, Slave2Gaming have been running Ma.K 15mm gaming convention where the rules for the game get play tested out. You can find out more here. That will be on again for the 14th June.

Broadside - Empires of Steel

Broadside is a new WW1 Dreadnaught era game using 3D printed battleships. The scale is a little too large for my tastes. But below is something more in my style that was exciting to see.

10mm Warmaster Ogre army, 3d printed

I believe it was Dave I was talking too who owned this excellently painted 3d printed Ogre Kingdoms army. But there were about three tables upstairs that were set up ready for Warmaster with one of the guys I talked to fielding a Dwarf army. The games hadn't been set up as yet, but the tables were set with terrain. So, I only got a photo of the Ogre army. This is fantastic to see that this game is making a comeback with the Warmaster Revolution ruleset and being kept alive by a dedicated fanbase. Looks like I'm going to have to dust off my 10mm armies and brush up on the updated ruleset.

This will probably come back for MOAB and so I might think about joining in. It's been years since I played a game of this, my most favourite wargame. So, you just never know.

UNSC Pelican for Epic, 10mm & 15mm scale wargaming

Keeping up my efforts to show off all the half painted and unfinished stuff I'm working on right now, I thought I would show off my small selection of UNSC Pelican dropships. In the photo above you can see the Dark Horse UNSC Pelican Dropship between two 3D printed original version Pelicans that I bought of Ebay or Etsy. The Dark Horse version is 6" in scale, and I bought it on Amazon. The 3D printed versions I purchased at the 20cm size, but also come in a smaller and larger size.

I'm happy with the print quality of these as they show up some nice detail whilst being robust enough not to break with general usage. I haven't finished painting the 3D models. But I will be using the Dark Horse version as a painting guide when I get some time to finish these off.

I have sci-fi mini's at Epic, 10mm and 15mm scale, as well as some 28-32mm scale for roleplaying games. So, these babies will be for use with the smaller scales, up to the 15mm scale. You can see how these fit below when compared to the Vanguard Miniatures 15mm space orcs. At the 15mm scale, these ships will be for the Imperial Guard, and I may consider getting a version for the Space Marines. The 20mm version would be too big for Epic scale however.

 Soooo what else is sitting unfinished on the table?

Wood Troll by Eureka Miniatures

 

Been making some painted test examples for my force of Woodling Creatures for role playing. This dude comes from Eureka Miniatures and is a Wood Troll from their 10mm fantasy range. I think it works pretty well for role playing as the image above should show.

Pretty simple to paint too. I went with a black base coat spray. Followed by a dark brown wet brush. When dry, this was followed by with a dry brush of light grey. I then washed it in Agrax Earthshade wash. Easy!

I used flock on the foliage areas of the miniature, but you could just paint that green if you prefer.

Time to paint some more of them.

Warmaster Mercenary Ogres ready for battle

 

My hoard of Warmaster Mercenary Ogres is finally completed and on the battle field!

These are the latest recruits to the Ogre Merc's.

One final unit of Bull Ogre Warriors.

A Butcher (Wizard) with walking food pantry and halfling cook assistants.

A Bruiser (Hero) to assist command on the field.

And the Ogre Tyrant (General) for the mercenary band.

Ready for battle. I can feel a battle report coming soon.

Tree-man for 10mm & 28mm by Eureka Miniatures

 This mighty dude is from Eureka Miniatures and is an 18mm Tree-man. As you can see from these images, he works well for both 10mm and 28mm.

There are three different sculpts, two of which are near identical. However, being metal, you can bend their limbs to provide a good variety of poses. This one is mounted on a 40mm base. Time to paint some more.
