The Ballad of Roger Bannister

Meet Roger Bannister, the former soldier, now trader NPC from our homegrown OSR Fallout d20 game. Roger is named after the famous British physician and athlete. Roger is a key NPC who often dolls out jobs and rumours for the players that sets them on adventures in the Commonwealth Wasteland.

A former soldier who was reassigned to the Logistics Corps after being injured in theatre, he survived the atomic Armageddon that befell the Fallout World, becoming a Ghoul. His journeys eventually settled on him picking up the life of a trader in the Commonwealth.

Roger was made using HeroForge 2.0. He's modelled on a Zombie template with added eyes and hair (a toupee for in-game purposes) thrown onto the model. This configuration works well if you are after either a Ghoul or specialised Ferral Ghoul miniature for player characters, key NPC's or a particularly nasty boss creature.

Roger may feature (i.e. his ballad!) in future posts where he appears in some skirmish games. So, keep your eyes open for that one.

Horse of the Apocalypse - War

This funny looking fellow is from an expansion to the Zombicide - Undead or Alive boardgame. Here I've painted it up to look like one of the four horses of The Apocalypse, albeit missing its rider. Sadly, these photos don't really show you the subtlety of the colour transitions from brown to orange. But it gives you an idea of how you can turn your Zombie Abomination Horse into something a little more than just your average Abomination (and there's nothing average about those blighters!).

The inspiration for this one came from be replaying the original Red Dead Redemption - Undead Nightmare again. In the game expansion, John Marston can tame the four Horses of The Apocalypse and I thought that for my games of Last Days - Timelines, this would be a cool miniature zombie to have on the table. It could set zombies alight, like in the video game, or rile them up for greater savagery like, in Zombicide - Undead or Alive.

The Horse of War in Red Dead Redemption is rather dark and muted in its colours and so I was going for that subtle glowing ember's theme with fire around its feet.

All I need now is a John Marston type miniature to be able to ride it :) That would be cool.

Who's a good boy then?

This guy is Hamlet from Hasslefree Miniatures.

I've painted him up as a companion for a Fallout Wastelander for our homegrown d20 Fallout game. For games of Fallout Wasteland Warfare, this guy will use the Dogmeat Scout card profile. But right now, I'm working on my own home-rules Fallout skirmish game based on the excellent rulesets of Stargrave and Last Days-Zombie Apocalypse. So more on that later. If you don't own Stargrave or Last Days, you really should have a look at them as they are great skirmish games.

The crew set about camping for the night

Yes, Hamlet is a boy dog!

Hmmm... I want that juicy...radrabbit?

I'll show you more on this little gathering in a future post. But that's all for now.

The Overmind

2024 already! And even though I went back to work early in the New Year, my mind is still in holiday mode. Speaking of brains... This is The Overmind who will become the Archvillain in an upcoming adventure of our group's home-grown d20 Fallout roleplaying game. I'll be using a modified version of the Mutant Crawl Classic adventure that is tailored to the Fallout universe, but this will be the key villain.

This miniature comes from Alternate Armies and is impressive. Just make sure you keep your weapons drawn. But watch out for its formidable psychic powers.
