Undead Dwarves

 

These lads are plastic Reaper Miniatures Undead Dwarves. The el'cheapo version. The plastic isn't as defined as the metal version sadly. So things like the teeth are not as well defined as the metal miniature version. But for our D&D game, these will do nicely.

Nory, the D&D Dwarf Pugilist

 The latest NPC addition to my role playing group is Nory, the Dwarven Pugilist.

Nory is actually the Reaper Miniatures' Hanrik, which you can find here.

He's an NPC that was the protagonist in the boxing match at the recent Winter Fair that the player characters partook of before heading out on an adventure. Lots of role playing opportunities for all at that event. But Nory held his ground well and did his race proud. He even bested one of the Elven player characters. So, well done Nory!

Emmus, Another Scibor Dwarf joins the Adventuring Party

Meet Emmus. He's the latest addition to the adventuring party, and the brother of Rorg in the game.

Emmus is another excellent Scibor Miniature.

The new player just joined the group for our last playing session so its been the key painting project I have been working on of late. Been painting a bunch of baddies as well for the upcoming adventures. I'll post images of them as well.

Meet Rorg, Dwarven barbarian and the latest painted edition to the player characters for our role playing group.

A little too much tanning mix there buddy!

Stuffed if I can remember who the manufacturer is of this excellent dude, but I'm pretty certain that it was Scibor miniatures. Yeap, he is! Found him here.

I left him standing on a stone block as an in-joke among the group. Everyone else is either human or elf, so shorty here feels a little inadequate. As such, I joke that he carries around a lump of stone or a box to stand on so that he doesn't feel so small. This has translated to the miniature the player uses in game.

It gets cold in them there mountains

This is a damn fine piece of work. Scibor do make some nice miniatures and this dude does come with his own rock to stand on. And yes, that is a bear skin (or is it a lion?) that he has made into a rug. PETA be damned! Dwarves don't care. If it comes a knocking looking for a dwarf for lunch, well it should expect that it will wind up being a shoulder rug in the not too distant future.

Kings of War battle report... well sort of....

The good guy's

I have a stack of Lord of the Rings miniatures from various factions, namely Numenor, Elves of the Last Alliance, Dwarves, Goblins and Angmar / Mordor. I really love the models of the Last Alliance men and elves and also the Hobbit Dwarves. I also really like the Moria Goblins. And the LotR Trolls are fantastic as well. Mordor Orcs are pretty good also. These are really nice sets of miniatures.

The bad guy's

For some time now I have wanted to use them with the Kings of War rule set but I haven't wanted to rebase them. So how to solve my dilemma?

Trolling around on eBay I found some MDF movement trays that take 25mm round bases. These movement trays hold 10, 8 & 6 miniatures. Taking a punt, I bought a stack. I also have some War of the Ring cavalry movement trays for my Warg riders and cavalry. So far so good.

So how does this all translate to the table top using Kings of War (KoW)? Well, see for your self. The trays are bigger than the official bases for KoW, but given that both sides have the same movement tray base this isn't a problem.

Casualties can be tracked too by simply removing miniatures off the tray, like in many other game systems, without compromising the unit's footprint due to its movement tray. So the only drawback is that the movement trays don't match the official base sizes. Anyway, below are a lot of images of the battle. Unfortunately time constraints didn't permit it to be fully played out. Still it looked impressive enough to warrant its own blog post.

Games Workshop Inspiration - Lord of the Rings / The Hobbit

I've had these images for some time now and took them at my local GW shop for painting inspiration. The painting appeared to be simple (i.e. not too complicated to imitate) but I believe it was really effective. So I took photos for a personal record for my own miniatures. So if you are looking for inspiration to paint you LotR / Hobbit miniatures also, hope this helps.
