Klingon D-10 Riskadh Heavy Cruiser

Here's a new addition to the Klingon Imperial Navy, the D-10 Riskadh Heavy Cruiser!

The fleet forms up

This beastie is from Studio Bergstrom and Woomera Shipyards (have a look here). It fits with the ADB 2500 series (i.e 1:3125 scale) but will also be released in the ADB 2400 series (i.e. 3788 scale) in the near future.

Shapeways D4, the D-10 and Studio Bergstrom Bird of Prey

As most of my Star Fleet miniatures fit the ADB 2400 / MicroMachine / Attack Wing scale, I am very keen to see these in the smaller scale.

Excellent detail on this thing

So "why get this in the larger 2500 series scale?" I hear you ask. Because I wanted one! Also, my intent is to use this as a command cruiser and planetary assault ship. Basically it will be an 'Original Series' era fleet flag ship with plenty of shuttles and marines just waiting to bash some heads in. Perfect for the period covering the Four Years War through to the General War for ACTA Star Fleet.

The side most Federation captains would prefer to see

Because it will be a different ship to the D-10 Riskadh I'll need to give it a new designation. Either in the 'C' or 'B' category. As the 'B' class of Klingon vessels were the massive dreadnoughts of the Imperial Navy, and this is going to be appearing with my Four Years War fleet, then the B-1 seems appropriate as this ship dwarfs the rest of my Klingon forces from that period.

The business end! Lots of detail here

So this monster would be produced in limited numbers and only be involved in major fleet engagements and planetary assaults once local defensive forces had been eliminated. So, B-1 it is then. Need to give it a decent Klingon name as well. Where's Google....?

Enterprise-era Warp Delta for ACTA Star Fleet

Warp Delta in formation

I have just finished painting my Warp Delta's that I bought from Shapeways. You can find these at Armadillo Miniatures on Shapeways here: Warp Delta 1/4400 Attack Wing.

Warp Delta's with the NX class

The come nicely scales for the Attack-Wing NX class starship. Once again, Coelian has done an outstanding job with these.

A closer look

If you plan to get any, I suggest getting them in Frosted Ultra Detail (FUD) as these have some very nice detail that adds to the miniature. Have a look at the following images for more of an idea.

Anyway, there you go. If you are after some Warp Delta's that scale with the other Attack-Wing Star Trek era ships (or any MicroMachines or ADB's 2400 scale ships) then these are for you! Some final shots for more reference. Enjoy!

Studio Bergstrom's Millennium Falcon (aka Tramp Freighter)

Studio Bergstrom makes a tiny Millennium Falcon miniature called a Tramp Freighter. It's part of his Renegade Alliance range.

A teeny Millennium Falcon!

I'm not currently building a Star War's fleet but I have wanted a scaled Millennium Falcon equivalent to use for ACTA Star Fleet (and NO winging about this being a crossover, Reader!). I have loved the Millennium Falcon since I was a kid and saw the first Star Wars movie. So I have always wanted one. As such, I finally purchased one of Mr Bergstrom recently and painted it up.

Lots of detail for such a small ship

Painting it was very simple. I just followed this process:
  • Based the miniature on a flying stand.
  • Base coated it in Chaos Black
  • Wet brushed it in White
  • Inked it in Nuln Oil (i.e. black ink)
  • Dry brushed in White again to the level of paint application I wanted
  • Painted red bits in a suitable red paint using a VERY fine brush
  • Painted the engine outlet in light blue
  • Painted the gun in Administratum Grey
  • Painted Nuln Oil ink into depressed areas in order to highlight the raised areas.
  • Done!

I didn't use the hole in the model for inserting the flight stand as I felt it was a little too far to the back of the model for what I wanted. So I instead cut off the small peg at the top of the flight stand and glued the now flat top of the base of the centre of the miniature.

"Punch it Chewie!"

So how big is this tiny fella? You can see below next to an ADB Destroyer and MicoMachines Light Cruiser. Its the perfect size for an ADB 2400 scale fleet.

Under escort. Clearly been a bad boy again!

So its a good fit for ADB 2400 / Attack Wing / MicroMachines scale and will go well with my ACTA fleet.

Starbase 27

Starbase 27

I have finally finished my starbase for A Call To Arms - Star Fleet. This fantastic model is Ravenstar Studio's Fort Courage Space Station.

Docking and access ports

Its a beastie of a base and just the right size and shape I needed for a Federation Starbase.

Guarding the frontier!

Starbase 27 was one of two new starbases (the other being SB12) built along the Klingon Border following the Four Years War. So this monster will be filling in for Federation starbases in my ACTA games.

Painting was fairly simple too.

  • Basecoat in Chaos Black
  • Wet brush in Administratum Grey
  • Ink in Black Ink
  • Do as many dry brush coats with Administratum Grey as required to get the desired effect (it too me about three goes to get the coat I was after).
  • Paint windows in a very light blue.
  • Paint details with Bleached Bone
  • Paint docking access ports in light blue
  • Done!

Close-up of docking access port

I have to confess that I haven't detailed the underside of this baby yet. Just wanted to get this one off my painting table as it was taking up room and I hate half finished projects.

Detail of the main promenade with windows

I haven't drawn up any ACTA data sheet for this one yet. Still need to think about that some more and pull out my old Star Fleet Battles SSD's for this sort of thing and translate it to ACTA.

Nice scale for my ADB 2400 scale Star Fleet mini's

So a fantastic model and well done Ravenstar!

10mm Ogre Mammoth Riders - Yeti's, Savage Kin and a Hill Giant (almost)

Black Gate Miniatures 10mm Ogre Mammoth Riders Kickstarter is cranking through the stretch goals!

So far the Yeti's and Savage Kin have been unlocked. See the concept art below.

Mmmmm, Yeti's

Next up is the Hill Giant, and if that is funded Black Gate will be adding stuff that they were going to wait for a 3rd Kickstarter to produce. Namely beasties like the diminutive Greenlings. So this Kickstarter may indeed end up covering two Kickstarters.

Savage Kin... nasty

Not bad going Black Gate Miniatures. Keep up the excellent work!

There is still more time to go before it winds up, but jump in there if you are interested.
